"I was hesitant to share my story"
HESITANT
As I mentioned, I was a little hesitant to share my story, but when I think about how many women in endurance sports still struggle with fueling their sport and missing periods, I know I would have loved to read an encouraging story like my own to know that you can get your period back after years of underfueling!
I was someone who once thought I had to quit doing what I love to get my period back, but working with Megan/Elizabeth & using Fuelin this past year has changed that! With Fuelin, I was able to ensure that I was getting in the right amount of carbs before/during/ after my training sessions, which is integral in maintaining a healthy period.
EYE OPENING
Your body needs to "trust" you and know that you are fueling enough to not just keep up with the day-to-day activities, but with your training sessions, too. Fuelin was a great eye-opener for me, as I always thought I was getting "enough" of what I needed, before I started working with the daily app. After working with both Elizabeth and Megan, I soon realized that in order to continue to improve, get faster and thrive in long course triathlons, it was integral that I bump up my intake.
PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT
It's so crazy to think that I started with this goal of completing an IM a long time ago, but was never quite sure if my body would be able to handle it. Well, here I am on the other side and I am thrilled to share that I will be headed to Kona! my qualifying race, was far from perfect, but one of the things I got right was my nutrition. I worked with Megan leading up to race day and we fine-tuned what I had practiced for my bike/ run nutrition. She gave great carb loading advice during race week and was always there to answer any last minute questions. I ended up consuming close to 75g CHO/ hour, which was a great win for me on the bike and then about 1 gel every 30-45 minutes on the run. As we all know, the bike fuel is just the segway to the run, and nailing it will determine how well you perform on the last leg. I ended up having the fastest women's marathon split of the day and 11th fastest overall!
BIKE FUEL
Mix of Precision Fuel and Hydration lemon + mint chews and Crank Sports e-gel/ e-fuel: 70-75g CHO per hour
3X PFH 1000 salt tabs
RUN FUEL
Crank Sports e-gel every 30-45 minutes: 39g CHO per packet
I cannot wait to begin my build to Kona with the help of Fuelin this year!
